Listed Buildings

The main function of Council as a statutory advisor is to make recommendations on the listing or delisting of historic buildings. Council is guided by a set of listing criteria set by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency  and this can be found in PPS6 which can be accessed under the Planning Service NI website Opens new window Depending on the grading of the listing, grant-aid is available to owners of listed properties to help them repair and maintain their buildings. Currently, Council is involved in a Second Survey of historic buildings throughout Northern Ireland. This is expected to last for another 10 - 15 years. It is also consulted about listed building consent in cases of partial and full demolition of listed buildings and building preservation notices (spot listing).
